It also develops market-leading, Web-based solutions, including applications, content, e-commerce and online services. New Corporate Strategy

In January 2001, Corel unveiled a new corporate strategy designed to build on its core strengths while capitalizing on its standing as a global technology leader. Corel's framework for growth is shaped around three phases or "horizons". The first horizon focuses on two key goals: strengthening the company's position in the graphics market and effectively managing the business applications division in order to upgrade the large base of existing users. The Web is the focus of horizon two. During this phase, Corel will develop advanced Web-based functionality within existing and new product lines. Horizon three will center around the development of technology for rapidly growing emerging markets, such as wireless and Web-based services.

The company is committed to enhancing its current relationships with customers while, at the same time, reaching out in new and creative ways to address customers in untapped and emerging markets. Corel continues to support and develop its renowned products and services—most notably its flagship brands CorelDRAW® and WordPerfect®. In addition, the company is aggressively pursuing opportunities for the future in new high-growth and high yield markets.

Creative Products

Corel's Creative Products group provides the primary engine for the Company's revenue growth. The company will investigate and identify opportunities in new, fast-growing markets fueled by the rapid expansion of the Web and demand for graphics-rich communication—a market expected to reach $2.9 billion by 2003. Corel will use its expertise in the graphics arena to capitalize on new opportunities.

In July 2001, Corel took definitive steps toward achieving its horizon one goals to strengthen the company's position in the graphics market. First, the company announced a definitive agreement to acquire Micrografx, Inc. The acquisition will allow Corel to enhance its current graphics line-up, particularly in the technical illustration area, and brings the company significantly closer to its goal of delivering products that will output graphics-rich content simultaneously over multiple channels.

Second, Corel launched a new line of products expressly designed to extend the possibilities of creative professionals—a key customer segment the company is targeting as part of its growth strategy. Called procreate™, the line is a collection of enhancement tools that extend the capabilities of existing design tools. It includes both Mac® OS and Windows® versions of Painter 7™ and future versions of KnockOut and KPT®.

Business Applications

Corel's Business Applications group and its flagship office suite are an integral component of the company's blueprint for success.

With a devoted following of WordPerfect customers, the company will continue to develop and support English versions of the award-winning suite, both for North American and international markets. Boasting a long-standing reputation for word-processing excellence, WordPerfect remains the choice of professional users who work extensively on longer, format-rich documents. Its stability and unique features are renowned by users in the legal community and in government offices, where specialized formatting and stability are critical to productivity.

Recognizing that there are untapped opportunities within its existing base of loyal WordPerfect users, Corel will enhance its relationship with customers to ensure that their priorities are addressed with each product update. Over 70 percent of the new features and enhancements in WordPerfect Office 2002 are based directly on client feedback. Corel's commitment to its WordPerfect customers will also be reflected in targeted sales and marketing programs aimed at rewarding customer loyalty through preferred pricing and licensing options. In addition, the company will take advantage of premium sales channels to serve professional customers in small to medium-sized businesses.

The Web

Corel will continue to broaden its support of the Web, delivering the Internet's versatility to customers through exciting Web-based applications, content and services. It will also work with Microsoft to develop applications for Microsoft's .NET platform, while further enhancing its own brands by offering them on the new platform.
