IPSCO Inc.

logo.gif (1565 bytes)IPSCO Inc. had its beginnings in 1956 as a pipe manufacturer known as Prairie Pipe Manufacturing Co. Ltd. From a small local pipe manufacturer, the company began production of its own steel in 1960 and subsequently changed its name to Interprovincial Steel and Pipe Corporate Ltd. In 1984, it changed its name to IPSCO Inc., adopting the acronym by which it was generally known, as its full name. The company is publicly traded on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges with the majority of shares widely held.

Over the years, the company has expanded from its Regina location to own and operate production facilities in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia in Canada and Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Texas in the United States. Today, the steelmaking capacity of the company is 2,250,000 tons per year, 1,000,000 at Regina and 1,250,000 at Montpelier, Iowa. IPSCO has also begun construction of its third steelworks in Mobile County, Alabama.

Further processing into higher value added steel products takes place in IPSCO's six pipemaking facilities and four coil processing facilities located throughout Canada and the United States. IPSCO steel can be found in a variety of products including grain bins, agricultural equipment, truck frames and boxes, railway car components, power poles, bridges, as well as in a variety of tubular products such as plumbing pipe, oil and gas well casing and tubing, line pipe and hollow structural sections.

IPSCO’s long-term goals include being a reliable employer with excellent working conditions and being a good corporate citizen in the communities in which it operates. It currently employs directly and through its subsidiary companies, more than 1,900 people.
