Benefiting from the dual traditions of caring and service, Mount Sinai Hospital, located in Toronto, Ontario, is an internationally renowned institution for its leadership in health care and biomedical research.

Mount Sinai Hospital was founded by the Jewish community in 1923 as a 33 bed maternity and convalescent hospital on Yorkville Avenue. After a number of expansions,  the hospital outgrew its location and moved to 550 University Avenue, boasting more than 330 beds. Once again, needing more space, the hospital moved to its current site at 600 University Avenue in 1973.

The hospital's commitment to patient care and research flourished. In 1985, the hospital established the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute. Its fundamental philosophy was to create an environment where clinicians could work alongside of basic science research, bringing the most current treatment from research and experience directly to the bedside.

Today, Mount Sinai Hospital is a 392-bed (adult and newborn) acute care hospital and a major teaching and research centre affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital's key priority programs are: women and infants health, surgical oncology, gastrointestinal disease, musculoskeletal disease, sub-specialty medicine and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, which focuses on molecular biology and oncology; development and fetal health, epidemiology; and molecular medicine.

Many of the hospital's programs are internationally recognized. For example, the orthopedic oncology program is the largest of its kind in North America. The Cardiovascular Clinical Research Laboratory is dedicated to cardiovascular research, making it unique in North America. The women’s and infants’ health program is one of the most comprehensive patient care, teaching and research programs in North America, offering a complete spectrum of care including high and low risk obstetrics, prenatal diagnosis, fetal medicine, infertility, gynaecology and neonatal and newborn care.

Today, Mount Sinai Hospital is a 462 -bed (adult and newborn) acute care hospital and a major teaching and research centre affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital's key priority programs are: women and infants health; surgical subspecialties and oncology; internal medicine and subspecialties; and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, which focuses on molecular biology and oncology; development and fetal health, epidemiology; and molecular medicine.
